Hi, I'm Chase.
My name is Chase Ridgeway and I am running for the office of Coroner for Georgetown County. I am married to my loving and beautiful wife Amanda. We have a beautiful 8 year old daughter Kennedy, who is always full of life and a social butterfly. We have lived in Georgetown for 10 years and are members of First Baptist Church. In dealing with all types of death, I am constantly reminded of how precious life is and that we are not promised tomorrow. This drives my approach to life.
My career in the end-of-life care industry began more than 17 years ago. At an early age, I knew that I wanted to help people through this difficult season of life. I began volunteering at a funeral home when I was in high school and after high school I went on to attend mortuary school in Atlanta. I also worked at a funeral home in Fayetteville, GA.
As is common practice, the owner of the local funeral home also served as the county coroner and it was there that I was introduced to the work of a coroner's office. After graduating in 2007 from Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science, I went on to serve my apprenticeship at Dunbar Funeral Home in Columbia, SC, one of the largest funeral homes in the state at the time. In April 2009, I received my South Carolina Funeral Director's License and Embalmer's License.
In 2012, as managing partner of a local funeral home, I was given the opportunity to begin working as a deputy coroner for Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson. It was under his tenure that I received the most valuable training and experience! As a deputy coroner, I have had the unfortunate opportunity to investigate accidental deaths: ranging from car wrecks, co-sleeping infant death, workplace deaths, etc., as well as homicides, suicides and natural deaths. As a part of these investigations I have also testified in many court cases.
It is through my countless hours of training and hundreds of hours of on-scene investigations that I have built a great working relationship with the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, Georgetown City Police Department, Andrews Police Department, Pawleys Island Police Department, Georgetown County Fire/EMS, Georgetown City Fire Department, Georgetown County Emergency Management, SCDNR, SLED, Solicitors Office, and many other agencies.
As a deputy coroner, I also retain great communication and a consistent working relationship with Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital, Grandstrand Hospital, MUSC and all hospice groups that serve Georgetown County.
It is these experiences and relationships that make me the best qualified and most experienced candidate for Georgetown County Coroner!
I look forward to REMAINING in the Georgetown County Coroner's Office as I continue to offer the citizens of Georgetown County experienced medicolegal death investigations.
